Leyland cypress is an effective way to provide privacy, cleaner air and a quieter neighborhood. Did you know hedges like this help stop school bus fumes from causing asthma?
The city refused to issue an occupancy permit. They said the hedge was too tall and too close to the road. When I asked about the hundreds of similar hedges I was told that the City has a policy of selective enforcement. They only go after people who remodel their homes or if there is an anonymous complaint.
Left is an image of a Clyde Hill hedge that keeps neighbors privacy and blocks headlights from bothering the resident of this house. This hedge is not up to code.
The City Council has the right to change the laws we live under in Clyde Hill. You can contact them if you want to see the rest of the hedges stay in place. There are a number of things I support.
1. Raising the minimum height on main streets to 12 feet.
2. Banning anonymous complaints.
3. Adding a section that allows hedges to remain if taking them down would cause an undue detriment to privacy, sound or air quality.
Contact the city council and ask them to make the changes to the code so the City Administrator and anonymous complainers won't be able to continue to damage our air, privacy and sound quality.

Candidates were asked to submit endorsements to the Clyde Hill news. I'm told that a disagreement about the definition of 'endorsement' caused two of the candidates to refuse to participate. I hope that civility can come back and everyone can get along.
Editorial Comment: Doctored Email & Doctor Eckel.
Recently Appointed Council member Ashley Eckel is asking for your vote. This summer Doctor Eckel publicly called a local resident a liar and said He 'doctored' her emails. This person was trying to assemble candidate statements to help neighbors decide who to vote for. She did not provide any proof. She published these unsubstantiated allegations. Why would someone smear a local resident who was trying to get candidate statements out to the voters?
Ms. Eckel has refused to answer repeated requests show proof.
False accusations are no different than lies. Making them without offering proof is toxic to our political discourse. Publishing the emails would be the fastest way to end this. Doctor Eckel won't show us proof.
Our town needs to heal the rifts that were caused by prop 1. We can't do that with council members who insult citizens who are trying to help the town.
Doctor Eckel says that lies and email doctoring were "predictable". I'm not sure what goes in California or the IVY leagues but we don't lie about our neighbors here. Does she think we are all corrupt?
Doctor Eckel, please explain.
10-20-23, Ms. Adams confirmed she made this post and it is "the candidate's words". Here is the text:

Perhaps along with the inappropriate injection of voting views from a council member I as a voting Clyde Hill resident received the following email:
From Dr Ashley Eckel:
Hello supporters. I want to thank you for supporting my campaign. I am reaching out to thank you, but also to let you know (in case you are talking to voters about the campaign) that a resident-blog yesterday posted outright lies/inaccuracies/heavily edited emails. It was completely predictable.
Unfortunately, those behind it edited and deleted the parts where I actually discussed important topics (like storm water, our budget, and city code). If you do happen to be out there talking to residents about me/the campaign, please tell them they are welcome to contact me directly to discuss actual campaign topics and any issues/questions/concerns. My best. Here's hoping I make it to the November election! Retain Ashley Eckel 805-657-2728

Did you know that anyone in the world can complain about a hedge in Clyde Hill anonymously and the City will force it to be cut down?
At the October City Council meeting results of an expensive study to gather information for the coming changes to the comprehensive plan were discussed. We were informed that 10% of the responses were not from residents.
